Chapter 6: "When You're In Love"

>> Wednesday, April 28, 2010

Share with us some of the things that popped out at you in this chapter. What was your instinctive response when you read the quote from John Piper's book at the bottom of page 100? (You don't have to answer that in the comments section, but at least read it again and think about it.)

Many people seem to have a misconception or seem "blurred" on the difference between obedience and service that stems from love and obedience and service that is born out of obligation. On page 102 Chan references Paul: " 'The ony thing that counts if faith expressing itself through love', (Galatians 5:6). Is loving God--and, by extention, loving people-what you are about? Is it what being a Christian means to you? Do you live as though faith, demonstrated through love, really is the only thing that counts?" What did you think about this section? If it is clear to you, what would your response be to those who obey and serve strictly out of fear and/or obligation?

What did you think about the section on "Help! I Don't Love You"? What else jumped out at you in this chapter?

Chapter 5: "Serving Leftovers to a Holy God"

>> Tuesday, April 20, 2010

In Chapter 5, Chan references many scriptures that point to the conclusion that a "lukewarm Christian" is an oxymoron. On page 85 he writes, "The thought of a person calling himself a "Christian" without being a devoted follower of Christ is absurd." Although, many of us have read Revelation 3:15-18 (...."I am about to spit you out of my mouth.....") and other verses referenced, was this chapter an eye opener for you? What has God shown you through this chapter?

What is your response to Chan's statements about the state of our hearts when we ask such things as "If I do x, y and z...will I still go to heaven?" On page 86 he writes that the question quickly becomes, "Can I got to heaven without truly and faithfully loving Jesus?" How about his reminder that His grace covers us....His "extravagant grace"?

Did anything pop out at you in his section on "offering leftovers" and how Father measures everything by the way that we love? Respond to this chapter to share what God is revealing to you with the group...whether it has been mentioned in this post or not.

Chapter 4: "Profile of the Lukewarm"

>> Monday, April 12, 2010

Chan reminds us in ths chapter about the parable of the sower. Where do you feel that you are in this parable? Chan writes more than once, "Do not assume you are on good soil." He then goes on to describe many profiles of lukewarm individuals. What did these profiles and the scriptures that follows them stir in you? Were you able to take a hard honest look at yourself and not focus on those around you? How is God moving in you through the book at this time?

Chapter3: "Crazy Love"

>> Monday, April 5, 2010

What did you think about the way Chan describes God's love for us in this chapter? Can you, or could you ever relate to what he wrote between how our relationships with our earthly father impacts the way we view our relationships with our heavenly Father? If so, has that changed and do you remember what brought about that change? Did it seem to be a barrier or did it lay the foundation for a stronger early relationship with the Father---or maybe a little of both in different areas? How did this chapter speak to you directly? What other areas of Chan's writting popped out at you?

Chapter 2: "You Might Not Finish This Chapter"

>> Monday, March 29, 2010

What is your response to Chan's writtings about the fragility of life and today not being just another, normal day? Can you relate to what Chan wrote about "justified stress"? What did God speak to you in this chapter? Chan refers to James' writtings in chapter 4, "Why, ou do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes" (4:13-14). What stirred in your heart as you read the stories of Stan and/or Brooke, as their lives here on earth were cut shorter than we would have expected?

Chapter 1: "Stop Praying"

>> Monday, March 22, 2010

OK, Ladies...So, what do you think about "Crazy Love" so far? One of the first things that Chan points out..." For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse," Romans 1:20. Chan writes about some things in creation that you have have known already, and others that may be new information. What about God's creation reminds you of his wonder, power and creativity? What about His amazing creation puts you in awe?

Chan also discusses our tendencies to have "spiritual amnesia". We are all guilty of it. We are surrounded by all of His breathtaking creation....we are PART OF His breathtaking creation...but yet, we still forget. Did Father use anything out of this book to remind you that He is the great "I AM"? That we are to worship him daily, with our lives, and to fear and respect Him? If so, what? Share your tendencies and experiences if you feel led.

We read about what God Himself is like, what the scriptures tell us He is like. God is holy. God is eternal. He is all-knowing and all-powerful, He is fair and just. Share with the others what jumped out at you, what is Father speaking to you about who He is and what He is truly like?

Welcome!

Welcome to the book discussion on "Crazy Love" by Francis Chan! I truly believe that God has some great things to show us through this book, the scriptures supporting it, as well as through discussion with one another! You are a part of a group of women participating from many different states and many different backgrounds! Technology can sometimes be irritating, but to me, the fact that we can all participate in this, grow and learn from one another, yet be in completely different states is absolutely amazing to me! Praise God!

I will try to post at the beginning of each week and shoot for a chapter a week. We can discuss the chapters in the "comments" section below. If you need help figuring out how to post a comment, please just let me know. You can facebook me or e-mail me at zkwojtek@suddenlink.net anytime. Just click on the button below to view the comments and there will be a space for you to add your own. It may prompt you to create an ID, such as using an existing or creating a new google account or some other account.

A few other "quick tips". If the music is distracting to you, you can scroll down to the bottom and turn it off. If you ever get behind in reading or need to go back to previous chapters, they can be pulled up under both the book name and/or the chapter name. Each time I make a post, I will give the post a "label" and will label them by the book name and chapter. This should make it easier to find older posts if you ever need to do so.
