Making Room for Joy

>> Friday, August 22, 2008

How much do you think about joy in your life? Is it essential? Something that you see that God wants for you? That he insists on? Where do you turn for comfort or a little relief? What do you believe about joy?

Read Nehemiah 8:10, Psalm 28:7, Psalm 4:7, John 15:11, John 16:24 and John 17:13. What do these scriptures tell you about joy?

This one too. I'm going to take some time and read the verses Kasey posted.

Since reading this section, I have focused on joy a lot more--just relaxing and trying to enjoy the moment, rather than plan out what I need to do next and miss out on the here and now. I know that God does want joy for my life and it is all around me. I just have to take the time to be still and enjoy it.

I guess that I never realized how much focus Christ put on joy. In the scriptures mentioned, what stands out the most to me is He not only wants joy for us, but for His joy to fill us! John 15:11 - "...so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete." Wow - Not only joy, but the joy of the Lord..in me, completing my joy. That is some powerful joy! How would my life be different and how could I impact others if I were filled with that kind of joy?!?!

I need joy.
I tell myself everyday that I am so blessed to be where I am, to be living the life I am. But I do not feel joy. And why not? I wonder "what is wrong with me?!?"

Eldredge says "We don't like to think about it (joy) much, because it hurts to allow ourselves to feel how much we long for joy, and how seldom it drops by."

How comforting it is to know that what God wants for me is joy....I am ready to find it.
