Chapter 9: "Who Really Lives That Way?"
>> Monday, May 24, 2010
In Chapter 9, Chan gave us stories of so many different people who lived their lives obsessed with the Father, obsessed with following Jesus.....no matter the cost, full force. What common threads did you see across all of these stories? Did one or two stand out to you more than the others? If so, what was it about those stories that spoke to you personally?

This was one of my favorite chapters, although I've pretty much loved the whole book! I love reading about people's lives and I'm always so encouraged and convicted when I read about people who are living as God has called us to live...in complete surrender to his will, walking each moment in our faith.
I think at least one thing they had in common was their unshakable faith. Many of them had terrible things happen in their lives but they still held onto God and their faith in the Almighty and believed with everything in them that He was in control and He would provide whatever was needed.
I had to chuckle when I read about George Mueller because all I could picture was the veggie tales movie about him. I can't remember which movie it's actually on, but I loved it when I watched it with the kids and I loved reading about it here.
Another story I liked was the one about the Robynson family. I liked this one because they did something that Jeff and I have only talked about doing. We always talk about taking our kids to serve the homeless but we've never done it. It was another reminder that we can give so much more than we do.
I loved all the stories but one last one that just really hung with me was Brother Yun. I love that God led him out of prison, past the guards as if he was invisible and on broken legs to top it off!
I'm so glad Chan included this chapter. I think we all need a reminder and possibly a gentle nudge at times at just what God can do if we let Him!
I think that this was probably one of my favorite chapters, too. It was so nice to read about real families. The stories were all very different, but with the same goal and same love. All of the people mentioned were living a very natural way in response to God's radical love for us.
I loved the story about the Robynson Family because they are so similar to each of us. I love that they involve their children in serving and loving others. On a day that most people stay in the comfort of their own homes, warm and cozy, enjoying all of the wonders of a family Christmas, they are out loving those who do not have that opportunity.
I loved the story of Jamie Lang and baby Junio. I love the dedication that she had at such a young age. I love the response that Junio's ill mother had...I can't say that I wouldn't be bitter if I were in a situation where I were unable to care for my own child; however Jamie's pure and Christ-like love must have been so real and natural to evoke such an amazing response from the mother and to lead her to Christ. I also love that they are going back to serve again.
I was touched by all of the stories, but I was somehow especially touched by the story of Rings. He was changed in such a dramatic way and is using that to help further the Kingdom. He is literally taking all that he has and using it to feed and love others.
