Beware of Agreements

>> Thursday, September 4, 2008

Take a few moments, if you haven't already, and pray for God to show you any agreements that you might have in your life. Does anything come to mind? Share them and/or how they effect you, if you like.

This was kind of out of left field for me, but God pointed me towards a relationship that I have with a family member. I decided a long time ago that he did not like me. I don't even really know where that idea came from, there wasn't really any true evidence for it...hmmm, what is the fruit of that!?!?

Anyway, I made an agreement that he just didn't like me and somehow went from open conversations and a good relationship to what has slowly turned into just saying what is necessary to one another, talking to one another only when we have to in order to get by. Conversations are now awkward and uncomfortable - and why? It is rediculous!

Even if the person does not like me after all, I see no real reason for it, but these awkward conversations sure aren't helping. For all I know, that person may think that I have a beef with him! I am going to pray for God to open doors to mend and restore that relationship.

I had trouble with this one too. I think my biggest agreement is that I tell myself I don't know where to read in the bible so I just don't read. I've told myself for so long, that if I just had a plan. If I just knew where to go, I would read my bible more.

I did good for a few days with Eldridges suggestion of asking God where to read. I confess I haven't done that in a while. I guess it's time to break that agreement and start spending more time in the word.

I think that my biggest agreement made so far was that I really thought for a long time that I did not need to attend church to be close to God.

God has revealed to me over time how important and supportive a church family can be. Now I cannot believe I have been missing out for so long! There are many times when I feel as though I am closer to my church family. I think this was all in His design.
