Captivating - Chapter 1, The Heart of a Woman
>> Wednesday, April 1, 2009
God created our feminine hearts as a reflection of his own heart. Eldredge says that, "And so the journey to discover what God meant when he created woman in His image - when He created you as His woman - that journey begins with your heart. We are reminded in Proverbs 4:23 of the importnce of our hearts, "Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life."

So this is my third time to read this book. When I read it the first time I thought it was a great book and got a lot out of it. The second time I read it with some great friends and got even more out of it. I can already tell that God has more to show me during this third reading of it. Some people don't understand why you would read a book more than once, but I'm learning that everytime I reread a book, I'm in a different season of life, with different issues and different circumstances. God has a way of showing me exactly what I need when I need it. What He tells me this time around could be similiar or very different from the first two times. I'm excited to see what He shows me through you all too. Thank you for letting me join you on this journey!
Okay, with that said, let me answer the question. I had not really thought much about being created in God's image before. Mostly because I always picture God as a male and therefore, didn't really see a connection. However, it says we are created in God's image. I love that God thought enough about me to make me in His image. It doesn't matter that I am female and not male. God carries all the characteristics of both. He is perfect and therefore it only makes sense He would have all the characteristics possessed by males and females. How else would He know exactly how to love me if He couldn't understand me? Instead God completely understands me and because of that can meet my every need and knows my every desire.
This is the second time that I have read this book and, like Julie, I can already see new things that God has in store for me this time around! I love it! I think that the first time that I ever thought much about being made "in His image" was the first time that I read the book. I think that needed that as a reminder this time around. He is showing me a lot about the different characteristics that I have, which I saw some as making me "too much". He is showing me that, no, those are characteristics and desires that He placed in me that He also has Himself. I have a longing for deeper relationships with friends and He desires that same thing from me....from all of us!
