Chapter 1, A Loss of Heart

>> Wednesday, April 1, 2009

Most of us have felt pressures from the world to "be more" or "be less", "try harder"....Can you relate to this feeling? Do you believe that this message is from God? If you were to replace that message that the world is sending you, what do you think God really thinks and feels about you?

Eldredge wrote in the study guide, "God did not place these longings in our hearts to torment us. Trather, they reveal the secret of who we truly are and the role that is ours to play. There is so much hope here, hope to become the woman you secretly long to be, the woman who is romanced, irreplaceable, and utterly beautiful!" What does this make you feel?

This message is not from God. God created us exactly as we are. He created us each for a purpose and as long as we are living that purpose, we are totally within God's will for us. To strive to do and be more is like telling God He was wrong. He knew us before we were born. He knit us together in our mother's womb and made us exactly how He wanted us.

I can say all that, but I still struggle with trying harder. Wanting to be more than I am or do more I am doing. I believe the enemy knows our every weakness and uses every opportunity to point them out. Satan does not want us to feel comfortable in our roles and in the way we think God feels about us. He wants to stir up feelings of inadequecy and doubt so we will be less likely to hear God calling to us. In Hosea it says that God is going to allure us. He will lead us into the desert and speak tenderly to us.

We have to be careful about whose voice we're listening to. Is it the every clever voice of Satan or is it the gentle voice of our Father?
